Central Jersey Woman, 72, Dies In Edison House Fire

An elderly woman died Monday after a fire broke out at her home in Middlesex County, authorities said.

The fire was not suspicious in origin, Edison Police Lt. Robert Dudash said on Tuesday afternoon..

The 72-year-old woman lived alone in the two-story house, Dudash said. Her name was not released pending notification of her family. The woman was found in an upstairs bedroom and pronounced dead at the scene, Dudash said.

The cause of the two-alarm fire remains under investigation, he said.

More than 20 firefighters responded to the two-story home after a passerby called to report seeing flames at 6:58 a.m., the police lieutenant said.
